The Ambit Energy MLM opportunity has begun to propagate throughout the state of Texas just like Excel Telecommunications, Ignite\Stream Energy, Herbalife, and the many other popular get rich quick type of businesses. I don’t have a problem getting rich quick and many of these companies reps will tell you it isn’t exactly a get rich quick type of opportunity. For the electricity customer they will usually find themselves being in a situation where a family member or friend approaches them asking for them to sign up with this new electric service. If you look at the energy rate you will see that it isn’t the cheapest electric rate around usually. If you were to go out to powertochoose today (this is the state electricity website) and look at comparable electric rates you will find many others offering better terms and electric rates.
What! More Then A Penny Off The Lowest Going Electric Rate!
I went out to the powertochoose website and pulled up Ambit Energy’s facts label. This is a reliable piece of information when comparing energy prices. The 12 month electric rate is anywhere from 12.49 cents kwh to 14.49 cents kwh depending on the amount of energy you use. This is a very horrible electric rate and the problem I have on top of that is they expect people to have their family and friends sign up on a much higher electric rate then what is currently available. As an example you could sign up with Startex Power for the same term and pay no monthly service charge and have a 12 month electric rate at 11.3 cents kwh. The rates for both Ambit Energy and Startex Power would be a fraction higher in Houston due to the congestion in this zone but would still reflect the same percentage in cost savings difference.

Fist I would like to state FACTS as to Ambit rate as of October 22, 2007. Yes the Certified Green 1-Year Term is correct at $0.1249, but to compare StarTex Power to this plan is wrong since StarTex Power does not provide a Green product (renewable energy). Ambit Energy is one of only two energy providers in Texas certified by Green-e (www.green-e.org).
Also if you go to powertochoose.com you’ll find the Ambit 12 month fixed rate is $0.1099 compare to StarTex Power 12 month plan is either $0.1230 pr $0.1350 (2 different plans to choose from).
What! Ambit Energy is the Lowest 12 month Fixed Rate!

It is commendable of Ambit Energy to offer a green electricity product. Unfortunately the other providers mentioned do not offer this choice however some of their electric rates are cheaper.
I’m out at powertochoose.org and Startex Power shows as being at 13.5 cents for the Houston area and 11.3 cents for the Dallas Fort Worth area. So Startex still wins in the Dallas area just not in Houston (Champion Energy would be the winner in Houston). They don’t charge the $4.95 or the $9.99 monthly charge regardless of the energy you use. Ambit’s Energy rate is quoted as being .1099 cents kwh or the same as saying 11 cents a kwh. If you add in the $9.99 charge you are around 12.1 cents a kwh. This beats Startex in the Houston area but does not beat Champion Energy in the Houston area. Champion Energy would total 11.85 cents which includes their $4.95 monthly service fee in the rate. Th only time the Ambit energy rate would beat out everyone is if you are using 1,000 kwh or more in energy each month.
In comparison the Ambit rate you mention has a $9.99 monthly service charge if you are under 1,000 kwh a month. They charge .1299 cents if you are under 500 kwh. If you are using 999 kwh but above 500kwh this means the rate would be higher even if you are using 900 kwh making the rate more like 12.1 cents a kwh. This would beat the Startex rate in Houston but not in Dallas Fort Worth. Also Champion Energy would still beat this Ambit rate in Houston as they are charging 11.3 cents kwh with a $4.95 a month service fee. If you add in the fee you end up paying 11.85 cents a kwh for an electric rate in Houston. This is a fantastic rate for Houston right now. From the looks of it Champion Energy would beat out both Startex and Ambit for the best electric rate price in Houston as of Nov 12 2007.
