Stream energy offers a total bundled residential rate at 11.99 cents kwh as of August 2 2007. This rate is highly competitive to many of the energy rates available out there right now. For instance, TXU Energy and Reliant right now offer a residential rate that is at 13.1 and TXU Energy is offering a 1 year rate at 12.4 cents a kwh.
How does Stream do against some of the smaller Retail Electric Providers?
When comparing Stream energy to the big guys they do well but there are some smaller companies that have been competing and doing a little better then Stream Energy. Spark Energy and Champion Energy (isn’t that small but not as well known in Texas) both have rates that are much lower then what Stream is offering right now for August 2007. Champion Energy charges a small monthly fee on top of the rate and Spark Energy does not charge a monthly fee at all.
TXU against Stream Energy, TXU is offering a month by month rate that is competitive right now
TXU has a month by month electric rate that follows the Natural Gas market and right now it is quite low because Natural Gas is trading at $6.14 MMBtu as of today on the NYMEX exchange. They are quoting 10.4 cents per kwh but the downside is if the Natural Gas price goes back up you will likely end paying more with TXU’s market rate then if you were on a fixed rate term.
If you risk it and do the follow the market thing then just be careful because one month you may find that since natural gas has come back up to $8 MMBtu you are stuck with a bill you cannot pay.

Your rates for Stream above are not correct. As of this writing they offer a rate of 10.70 in most areas for the dream Plan, and 10.90 in other areas.
