Houston Texas Electric Company Rate Comparison

Buying Discount Electricity and Shopping Electricity Companies

Houston Texas has over 40 Retail Electricity Providers to choose from but they all price differently and many have unusual products that are not easy to understand.

There are some bottom line questions to ask when working with an electricity provider in order to obtain the best rate. To begin with, you have 3 questions. What is the "energy only" rate? What is the "annualized average "utility charge" rate? Are there any other charges besides the taxes? These questions apply to the most easy to understand product out on the market, The "fixed rate". The fixed electricity rate also has the most protection for a commercial business. If the natural gas market goes up the electricity rate will not follow because it is fixed for a specified term.

To obtain the cheapest fixed electricity rate it is usually advantageous for a smaller company to be a part of an aggregation which is basically a coop of multiple commercial businesses who use their energy in a similar manner. These companies form groups in order to leverage a large amount of electric usage into buying power to obtain an electric rate they would otherwise not be able to achieve. The question to ask when considering an aggregation is, "Do I have the kind of usage an electric company would price very competitively?" If you are like most Retail commercial businesses, the answer is No.

Larger commercial and manufacturing businesses do have enough electric usage to have a fierce bidding war over their electricity usage. For these companies we go out to the electricity providers and negotiate the best possible rate from them by using the business relationship we have with these providers. We have been doing business in Texas since the state deregulated in 2002. We continue to provide large volumes of commercial business to the winning bidder. By maintaining a non-agency relationship with the electric companies we are able to continue to provide a lower electricity rate then what could be achieved on your own.
